Ripley Company Introduces the RMS, a Remote Mid-Span Stripper for the Electrical Utility Market

Ripley Company is proud to introduce our innovative new tool, the RMS Remote Mid-Span Stripper. The RMS will remove insulation from energized tree wire and spacer cable faster, easier and safer, saving valuable time and money. The RMS will mid-span strip tree wire and spacer cable with cable ODs of .500 to 1.75 in (12.7 to 44.45mm) and with voltages of 15KV to 35KV.

Made to be used by one man from a bucket, the RMS completes mid-span stripping in a fraction of the time versus conventional stripping methods. Additionally, the RMS will mid-span strip any phase without removing the conductor from the spacers.

The RMS is comprised of three main components: a head, which is manufactured from an insulated Delrin housing; an insulated stick and epoxy shaft which connects the head to the gearbox.

The tool can be either manually operated from the crank on the gearbox or can be used with a power drill to automate the process.

Fabricated in several lengths, the RMS comes with a wire gauge for each bushing to ensure the proper bushing size is used on the wire. Each wire size requires a separate bushing, and each bushing comes with its own wire gauge.

The RMS is sold under Ripley’s popular Utility Tool brand name, which has provided high quality wire and cable preparation tools to electric utilities and electrical contractors for over 25 years.
